Air India launches a non-stop flight from Mumbai to San Francisco.

Air India the largest airline in India and a member of Star Alliance launched its first non-stop flight between Mumbai and San Francisco on December 15, 2022.

The BOM-SFO non-stop flight is its first-ever non-stop flight connecting the 2 cities of Mumbai and San Francisco.

This comes shortly after the launch of its three-times-per-week flight between Bangalore and San Francisco (BLR-SFO, SFO-BLR) on 2 December 2022.

The Air India Flight duration from BOM to SFO is 16 hours.

This new flight is consistent with Air India’s mission to expand its global footprint and provide its customers with the highest levels of service and convenience.

Air India continues to establish Mumbai as an international and domestic transportation hub.

Following the launch of the BOM-SFO non-stop flight,

  • BOM-JFK (New York City)
  • BOM-FRA (Frankfurt)
  • BOM-CDG (Paris)

will be established. Additionally, additional domestic routes departing from Mumbai will be added.

After Delhi and Bengaluru, Mumbai will be the third Indian city with direct flights to San Francisco.

The first flight AI 179 from Mumbai to San Francisco departed on time at 14:30 local time and arrived in San Francisco the same day at a convenient 1700 local time.

Return flight AI 180 will depart San Francisco at 2100 local time and arrive in Mumbai at 0340 local time two days later.

At the Boarding Gate of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, Mr. Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD of Air India, handed the boarding pass to the first passenger who had checked in, in the presence of senior officials of Air India, Mumbai Airport, and other organizations and passengers. The two senior citizens on the flight were also present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Mr. Wilson addressed the group, stating, “As part of our five-year transformation plan, Vihaan.AI, we plan to significantly enhance connectivity between India’s major cities and prime global destinations. The non-stop flight between India’s financial capital and Silicon Valley is a step towards achieving enhanced customer experience. With the launch of this route, we will have a weekly availability of 40 non-stop flights that will bolster India’s connectivity with the USA.”

Air India presented each passenger on the inaugural flight from Mumbai to San Francisco with a specially curated gift bag.
